Strathbogie Shire Council and the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing recently hosted a series of painting workshops to foster community healing and recovery from the October 2022 floods.

Strathbogie Shire Mayor Laura Binks thanked artist Philip Hickingbotham for facilitating the workshops.

“The workshops in Nagambie and Avenel provided a unique opportunity for participants to engage in the therapeutic process of creating art while reflecting on the profound impact that water has had on our community,“ Cr Binks said.

“The captivating landscape paintings created during the workshops stand as both a testament to the resilience of our community and a visual representation of the journey towards recovery.”

She said the response to the workshop was overwhelming, with all available spots booked out in record time.

“Participants of varying skill levels expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn from such a fantastic facilitator in a supportive environment,” Cr Binks said.

Because of the immense success of this year’s workshop, the council also announced another event in Euroa would be scheduled for early 2024.

“As spaces are expected to fill up quickly once again, we encourage all art enthusiasts and community members to keep an eye out for this upcoming event,” she said.
