The Strathmerton Steering Committee has celebrated its five-year anniversary and is pushing forward with developing its plans for the next five years.
Committee member Kerry Murray said the group’s mission was to better the Strathmerton area for both residents and visitors.
“Strathmerton is the largest-growing small town in Victoria, there is a lot of people moving in and therefore we want people to stay and enjoy the town,” Ms Murray said.
Throughout the past five years the committee has moved forward with several initiatives, including beautifying the town by planting hundreds of new trees.
The tree project involved kids from around the area.
A grant through the Queens Platinum Jubilee allowed the committee to construct a walking track at the Strathmerton Recreation Reserve, which was lined with hundreds of trees.
Another initiative involved hiring a local ceramicist and First Nations artist to improve the look of the public toilet block.
Ms Murray emphasised that the work of the committee wouldn’t have been possible without the support of other local groups, including St Aidan’s opportunity shop, the Lions Club and Moira Shire Council.
“We couldn’t achieve our goals without the support of our local organisations,” she said.
Ms Murray said the committee was keen to attract more members.
“We encourage the community to get behind the committee, particularly as we are formulating our next five-year plan. Join our meetings and have some direct input,” she said.
