Goulburn Valley Libraries and Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE are taking sustainability to a whole new level in their upcoming fashion gala.
Students across the region have created everything from ball gowns to handbags — all from the pages of repurposed books.
Come Wednesday, September 14 the works of students will be shown in a parade at the Shepparton Library.
“It has been both inspiring and exciting to work on this project with the students ... an absolute pleasure to be a mentor in the process of helping their ideas and skills development,” GOTAFE Visual Art and Design teacher Jan Donaldson said.
“The students have stepped up to all the tasks involved with great enthusiasm to produce some truly unique wearable artworks.”
As part of their Vocational Education and Training delivered to secondary students, students attend the Archer St GOTAFE campus every Wednesday for classes in a Certificate III in Design Fundamentals.
In addition to the Shepparton-based students, some travel from as far as Seymour, Euroa and Cobram.
Goulburn Valley Libraries program co-ordinator Bronwyn Cole said the works created belonged at “prestigious fashion events or in galleries”.
The students will model their creations at the gala parade event on Wednesday, September 14 at the Shepparton Library.
