Deniliquin students donned their walking shoes on Friday to take part in National Walk to School Day.
Several Deniliquin schools, including St Michael’s Parish Primary School and Edward Public School, took part in the day.
St Michael’s assistant principal Fiona Waters said the school encouraged students to walk to school on the day if they could.
Those who came on buses walked a block, and those who came in a car were encouraged to park a block away and walk to school.
“We want them to walk to school because it’s good for their health,” Mrs Waters said.
She said it also offered the opportunity for students to taught about crossing roads safely.
Local police joined in the activities at Edward Public School, with two officers from the Deniliquin station greeting students as they walked through the gates.
