The second Creative City Networking Session has been hailed a great success, with more than 40 local creative and community group members coming together to contribute ideas regarding festivals and events that could make Greater Shepparton a more lively place.
The session was part of Greater Shepparton City Council’s Creative City Strategy, which seeks to invigorate the local creative sector, with opportunities for artists, business owners and community members.
The event was hosted by local producer Jamie Lea on Monday, September 19, with contributions made by Shepparton Festival creative director Kristen Retallick, Out in the Open Festival co-convenor Damien Stevens-Todd and Point of Difference Studio’s Ofeira Satele.
Organisers of the session were particularly pleased to see new faces from a broad range of creative industries.
“It was great to hear diverse perspectives on the role that festivals and events can play in a community — creating belonging, providing platforms for diverse groups to be seen and heard, and providing opportunities for audiences to connect across cultures and to participate in creativity,” Creative City co-ordinator Anita Larkin said.
The next Creative City Networking Session will be held on Monday, October 17 at Yurringa Studio in Mooroopna and the final meeting for 2022 will be held on Monday, November 21 at Tatura Community House.
More sessions will be held in 2023 to give Greater Shepparton’s creative sector more networking and learning opportunities
