Supermarket is open for the community

Keeping the community going: Stephanie O’Keefe, Debra Ackerldy and Rebecca Wintle from O'Keefe's IGA.

On Friday, the Seymour community was relying on O'Keefe's IGA for much-needed supplies, with Coles closed due to flooding and Woolworths operating with limited hours.

As of Friday afternoon, groceries were adequately stocked but fresh produce was in high demand.

Additional stock had been ordered from head office; milk, groceries, produce, meat and liquor had also been ordered.

Debra Ackerldy of O’Keefe’s said that overall they were in a good position to continue serving the community.

“There is no need to panic on the general stuff, but we are running short on meat and milk and bread,” Ms Ackerldy said.

Stephanie O’Keefe said people were welcome to purchase whatever they needed.

Still open: Most products are well stocked but meat is in high demand, with more deliveries expected.

“At the end of the day, if it’s on the shelf, you can buy it,” Ms O’Keefe said.

“There’s been a few trolleys coming through, but it’s also people who have got another family staying with them.”

The women were grateful for the community’s patience and hoped that everybody was staying safe.

“The community has been amazing.

“The last two years has really created a sense that if we don’t have it, unfortunately it’s not by choice.”
