Seymour College Year 12 students have received care packages ahead of their exams thanks to a local initiative.

Sue and Pete Smith’s granddaughter received a care packaged at her school in Melbourne and the couple decided to do the same thing locally.

They teamed up with Café 96 owner Freya Grant to make the packages containing a savoury roll, fruit, fruit juice, a brownie or a muffin and some lollies.

Mrs Smith said about 50 care packages were made and were greatly appreciated by the students.

“We had some great feedback from students who appreciated the gesture and knowing someone was thinking of them,” she said.

“Exams and all the stress of figuring out what you’re doing for a job or university is stressful enough without the pandemic.

“It’s been a rough time for students and this was small gesture to show we are thinking of them and to encourage them to keep going.”

Ms Grant said there were some logistical issues with delivering the care packages due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

“We couldn’t get the packages to as many kids as we would have liked because of the restrictions,” she said.

“It was a challenge, but we took some lessons from it that we will implement in the future to get more delivered.

“We will definitely do it again and look forward to working with the school to help out our local students.”
