Support for prospective councillors

Council information: Sessions are offered online, in group settings and individually.

Strathbogie Shire Council is offering information sessions for prospective council candidates as a part of its Your CommUNITY Your Voice campaign.

Council administrator Peter Stephenson said the shire, which covers 3303 square kilometres and is home to more than 11,500 residents, needed strong and well-informed candidates.

The sessions aim to outline the councillor role, encourage participation in the 2024 local government election and familiarise candidates with the necessary commitments for potential nominees.

Details on nomination procedures, the electoral process and opportunities for questions will be provided.

Mr Stephenson said councillors were a crucial part of a democratic society and had an essential role in serving and representing the community’s interests.

“This is an opportunity to hear about all the services that the council undertakes, learn how local government works and learn what our new undivided electorate structure means for the shire,” he said.

“Importantly, these sessions will include the role and objectives of a council and how councillors and staff work together.

“Knowing these things will help candidates be great councillors if elected.”
