Supporting communities since 1833

If it wasn’t for the volunteers at Vinnies, hundreds more people in our community would be struggling.

The St Vincent de Paul Society has been assisting communities all over the world for almost 200 years, having been founded in 1833.

The organisation’s vision is to “help all with understanding and without judgement”.

They also aim to give help and hope to people in tough situations, particularly those who experience homelessness and poverty.

Delivering this vision in Deniliquin is a small team of dedicated volunteers.

Stocked at the St Vincent de Paul Shop in Napier St, is clothing, food, and other essentials so that people who can not afford the regular prices that big stores charge have the things they need to survive.

The St Michael’s Conference can also assist those struggling to meet household expenses, and through campaigns like the Vinnies Winter Appeal which is now ramping up.

“A volunteer at Vinnies needs to be understanding, kind and friendly,” conference member Daph Greaves said.

“These volunteers see the hard times many people go through and often act as a shoulder to cry on for members of the community who need help.”

Despite the important work they do in the community, the number of Vinnies volunteers is small.

They encourage anyone with “a kind heart and spare time” to sign up to volunteer. Drop into the store at 64-44 Napier St, Deniliquin or call 5881 2753.
