Powercor says a suspected lightning strike was the likely cause of a power outage to an estimated 2500 customers in the north of Shepparton on Sunday afternoon.

Powercor said the customers lost power just before 4pm on January 22, with all reconnected by 5.20pm.

A spokesperson for Powercor said it suspected lightning caused the outage.

They said lightning strikes could trigger safety measures aimed at protecting the wider network, and at this stage that was what was suspected to have happened.
