After being postponed in 2021, Yea Sustainable Community Day at Yea Recreational Reserve is going ahead on Sunday, February 27.

Celebrating the town’s sustainable future, RACV and 2030Yea will be hosting a range of free activities for the whole family, including an outdoor cinema screening of The Lorax with popcorn.

After Yea was a main relief centre in the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, the town was identified as a worthy recipient for a $115,000 solar panel system and battery for the football and netball clubs from RACV.

It also assists the push for the community to be completely powered by renewable energy by 2030, RACV Solar chief executive Andy McCarthy said.

“It will also help the community with daily use by significantly reducing their electricity costs so the money saved can be reinvested back into the local community,” he said.

Attendees will learn about solar power, electric vehicles, renewable energy and other sustainable practices.

2030Yea president Elaine Furniss said the group continued to educate the community about sustainability.

“We are proud to work with RACV Solar on this exciting event, and we look forward to bringing the community together for a fun afternoon of activities and learning,” she said.

“As a community, we want to achieve energy resilience, especially during times of emergency.”

Hosted at Yea Recreation Reserve, activities will begin at 2pm and continue through to 6pm on Sunday, February 27.
