While all famed movies for their own distinct and inspiring sporting plotlines, one can't look past Equal the Contest for an on-the-ball example of inclusion and equity in sports.

On Thursday, November 14, the Kialla Park Community Centre will host a free screening of the award-winning documentary, inviting teammates, sports clubs, schools, and colleagues to come together over a free bucket of popcorn and a from-the-heart flick.

Equal the Contest follows a local women’s footy team in regional Victoria as they journey from a simple desire to play to a complex battle for inclusion and belonging.

When the team faces unexpected challenges, their fight not only transforms their club but also contributes to a broader movement for gender equity in sports.

The screening aims to kickstart a meaningful conversation about the barriers many face in accessing sports, emphasising the importance of creating safe, welcoming spaces for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

After the film, attendees can engage with event organisers during an informal Q&A session.

It's an opportunity to share insights, network, and gather practical takeaways to promote more inclusive community sports environments.

The event is proudly organised by the Greater Shepparton City Council’s Resilience in Recovery team, Valley Sport, the Greater Shepparton Active Women and Girls Network, AFL Goulburn Murray, and GV Pride.

Please note, Equal the Contest is rated M for mature audiences, making it unsuitable for children under 15 due to its coarse language and themes.

The community screening of Equal the Contest will take place on Thursday, November 14, from 5.30pm to 8pm at the Kialla Park Community Centre, Reserve St, Kialla.
