A local author will make an appearance at the Stanhope Biggest Morning Tea to assist in raising funds for the Cancer Council.

Stanhope will be serving up a delightful array of steamy, savoury and sweet treats in the Stanhope Senior Citizens’ club rooms on Thursday, May 23.

The Stanhope development committee has organised its very own morning tea to raise funds for the Cancer Council, as a part of Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, running nationwide between May and June.

The Stanhope Biggest Morning Tea has been running for more years than committee member Christine Dicketts can remember, but she is striving to make this year’s the biggest yet.

“It’s an ongoing tradition to hold the morning tea, and of course, everyone has a soft spot for the Cancer Council, so we’re happy that we can raise some money for them as well,” Ms Dicketts said.

“The tea has been held for so many years, and the younger generation just recently got the hand-off to organise the event, so we want to continue giving our best,” she said.

Besides the morning tea, and the fun and festivities that come with the day, the biggest attraction for the event will be the guest appearance of author Tracee Spiby.

Booked in: Murchison author Tracee Spiby is set to appear in Stanhope for their annual Biggest Morning Tea and speak about her book One Hell at a Time.

Ms Spiby, hailing from Murchison, is set to provide fascinating insights into the research and production of her book centred around World War I, One Hell at a Time, which recalls her grandfather’s time in the war.

“We’re hoping that Tracee will draw more of a crowd, because she is quite an accomplished author,” Ms Dicketts said.

Attendees can also look forward to walking away from the delicious morning tea with a prize from the raffle, or from the many tea-themed competitions throughout the event.

Make your way over to the Stanhope Senior Citizens’ rooms with a plate of your favourite baked goods and hand over a gold coin donation to gain access to a morning of tea filled with treats.

All are welcome; just bring yourselves, and that all-important gold coin donation and join in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to support the Cancer Council.

Other community groups can join in the fun by hosting a morning tea and raise money for the Cancer Council across May and June and registering at www.biggestmorningtea.com.au where you can receive a free hosting kit.
