Local residents of all ages came together on Saturday, July 27, to witness what the Kyabram SES unit had to offer at its Community Day.
Attendees were treated to safety demonstrations, family-friendly activities and a sausage sizzle at the facility on Kuhle Crt.
SES volunteers put their skills on display in live demonstrations, showing attendees what it took to respond to different emergency situations such as road crash rescues, and casualty handlings.
Also in attendance were Kyabram police officers, volunteers from SES units in Rushworth and Rochester, and Ambulance Victoria staff, who held information sessions about first aid and CPR throughout the day.
Families enjoyed a range of activities, with children delighting in face-painting, badge-making, fairy floss and popcorn, while adults savoured coffee and a hearty sausage sizzle prepared by SES volunteers.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Rob Amos also made an appearance, seeing what the Kyabram SES unit had to offer and even taking a photo with SES marsupial mascot Paddy the Platypus.
Information sessions about the essentials of emergency kits and recruitment details were also on offer.
Most importantly, however, it was a time for the community to meet the hard-working volunteers from across the shire that put themselves in the line of danger to help those who needed it in the direst of situations.
The day was part of a broader campaign used to drive new volunteers to join SES units across the shire, with the Rochester, Echuca and Rushworth units holding their own open days.
Kyabram SES controller Paul Octigan said the day was a success.
“We are thrilled with the turnout and engagement at our Community Day. It was wonderful to see so many community members come along,” he said.
“The demonstrations were eye-opening, and meeting the SES volunteers was inspiring. It’s reassuring to know we have such dedicated people looking out for us.
“We thank everyone who attended and contributed to making the Kyabram SES Community Day a resounding success.”
The Kyabram SES is always on the lookout for more volunteers, especially ahead of summer.
