New positions: Independent administrator John Tanner AM has been appointed to five council committees and will use the positions to help address the concerns raised in the Commission of Inquiry.

Independent administrator John Tanner AM has been appointed to five Moira Shire Council committees.

Mr Tanner has been appointed to the All Abilities Advisory Committee, the Murray River Group of Councils, the Goulburn Valley Regional Library Corporation Board, CEO Employment and Remuneration Advisory Council, and the Audit and Risk Committee.

Under the appointments, Mr Tanner fulfils the roles that were held by elements of the former Moira Shire Council, including the mayor and councillors.

Mr Tanner said he looked forward to working with the various committees and helping contribute to their smooth running.

“These appointments will enable a number of the issues raised in the Commission of Inquiry to be addressed,” Mr Tanner said.

In other council news, acting chief executive officer Joshua Lewis has had his appointment extended until the end of April.

Mr Tanner said Mr Lewis had performed his duties admirably under less than ideal circumstances.

“Mr Lewis has demonstrated excellent leadership and commitment over the last 22 days since taking on the role in difficult circumstances,” Mr Tanner said.

Moira Shire Council was sacked last month after a Commission of Inquiry found mismanagement and dysfunction was rampant.

Mr Tanner will leave his position as independent administrator after three months and be replaced by three permanent administrators until the next scheduled council elections in 2028.
