Its time to come out of your shell and join Turtle Talk in Tatura.
The free interactive event is presented by RiverConnect and Turtles Australia, to give kids a chance to learn about the fascinating freshwater turtles inhabiting our local waterways.
Presented by experts from Turtles Australia, the event’s attendees will have the rare chance to see turtles up close and learn about their lives and habitats.
RiverConnect education officer Emily Lange encouraged the community to come along.
“Come along and learn about the freshwater turtles that live in our local waterways,” she said.
“We’re lucky to have the eastern long-necked turtle, broad shelled turtle and Murray short-necked turtle.
“The broad shelled turtle, or Bayadherra, is also the totem species for the Yorta Yorta People.”
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said the event would be a great activity for families.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature and learn more about the unique wildlife in our region,” he said.
Turtle Talk will take place on Tuesday, January 14 from 9am to 11am at Cussen Park, Tatura. The event is free to attend, but you can register online at events.humanitix.com/turtle-talk-2025
