Rochester Men’s Shed invited the community to its open day and barbecue on Thursday, June 27.

The event celebrated the group getting back into business after flood damage to the site, located behind REDHS.

The Men’s Shed is open every Monday and Thursday from 9am to 1pm.

“(The open day) was to celebrate the reopening after the repairs from the flood,” Rochester Community House youth and community officer Jenna Harvey said.

“They’ve been open for a couple of months, but they’ve just been fine tuning and tidying up, settling the placement of tools.

“(The event) was to encourage new people to come down and join.”

The shed welcomes ideas big and small, with community initiatives or individual projects worked on.

“They’ve got lots of different jobs on at the moment for the Rochester Pony Club, building horse jumps,” Ms Harvey said.

“Then there are a lot of members who come in and just work on their own stuff.”

The group also built a frame for an Australian flag that was donated by the House of Representatives, organised by Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell.

“It was presented to the Rochester community and Men’s Shed,” Ms Harvey said.

“They’ve been working on framing it up so we can display it in the community which is very cool.”

The Rochester Men’s Shed is temporarily closed until July 17, and will reopen on Thursday, July 18.

New members are always welcome, and can reach out to Rochester Community House on 03 5484 3600, or simply come to the shed at 1 Pascoe St, Rochester, past the acute entrance at REDHS.
