Thousands of conversations have taken place across Greater Shepparton as part of the third year of 1000 Conversations.

As part of the 2023 initiative, conversations have given the community an opportunity to discuss the ways the lives of young people can be improved.

The conversations are facilitated by the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project, an organisation that works to help young people reach their full potential and thrive.

This is the organisation’s third year of holding the 1000 Conversations project since it began in 2014, with conversations taking place in 2015 and 2018, and a small 101 conversations in 2020.

The News hosted its own session on Wednesday, November 15, led by Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project strategic adviser Fiona Johnson.

At the session, Ms Johnson asked the participants five questions about issues that were impacting young people in the Goulburn Valley and what help they might need.

This year, the organisers are also seeking to discover the changes in priorities and concerns in the community after many significant events in the past few years, including the effects of COVID-19, the 2022 flooding event and the amalgamation of Shepparton’s four secondary schools.
