Hi there, Seymour!

My name is Billie, and as of Wednesday, December 11, I am the newest member of the Telegraph team.

As I’m writing this, I’ve only been with the Telegraph as a cadet journalist for four days, however the generous welcome I’ve received has already made me feel as though I’m a part of the community.

As our Seymour office has closed, I am currently based in Shepparton, however I will be commuting to Seymour to discover all the local stories that come about and learn as much as I can about this lovely town.

Originally, I am from all over the place.

I was born in Rosebud on the Mornington Peninsula. My family then moved to Bright, which you may know from its beautiful autumn leaves, its closeness to the Victorian Alps, or even the Hot Rod Festival.

After a few years, we moved back to the Mornington Peninsula, this time to Blairgowrie, and then back to Bright.

Finally, about seven years ago my family settled down in the regional city of Wangaratta.

Over the past three years, I have been living in Moonee Ponds while I studied at Melbourne University.

I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree and double-majored in creative writing and media studies, graduating on December 8, a 23°C day, which felt like a Melbourne 28°C.

Let’s just say I was very excited to get out of that cap and gown.

I’m pursuing a career in journalism because I believe that everyone has a story to tell and I feel honoured to be a medium through which that story is told.

I am passionate about writing and researching and I promise to take care with all the stories that come out of the community.

After living in Melbourne for the past several years, I’m most looking forward to feeling like a local again by getting to know everything I can about the tight-knit community of Seymour.

If you have anything you’d like me to report on, don’t hesitate to give me a ring on 5792 3907 or email billie.davern@mmg.com.au
