Moira Shire Council has announced the beginning of work to install artwork at the largest inland beach in the Southern Hemisphere.

The artwork installation is set to begin in the coming weeks following a series of community workshops facilitated by Arts for All Cobram and council.

The mosaic workshops were held in April this year and drew a positive response from the community, organiser June Wood said.

“We had such a range of people who came along — both men and women, schoolteachers, young people with newborn babies.

“It was just a huge range of people that attended to be a part of the project.”

“We had people come back a couple of times. It was a really positive and well-received project.”

Mrs Wood said there was a lot of excitement about the mosaic installation.

“[People] are very keen to see their artwork down there.”

Up to 50 mosaic works will be installed across the surface of four concrete posts at the Thompsons Beach park.

Local artist Sharon Evans, who led the mosaic workshops, will also lead the installation over the next two weeks.

The next job will be placing the mosaics on the posts.

There will also be sculptures installed on several large boulders nearby.
