New speed limits: The Tocumwal area will be getting new speed limits in response to community concerns.

Motorists are being warned of changes to the speed limit in the Tocumwal area which will take effect on Friday, June 9.

The speed zone changes will see the speed limit dropping from 100km/h to 80km/h on Hutsons Rd from Burma Rd to 110m east of Nugget Fuller Dve, on Burma Rd from Babingtons Rd to 160m north of Flight Place, and on Babingtons Rd between Burma Rd and Thorburns Rd.

Additional changes will include the speed dropping from 80km/h to 50km/h on Hutsons Rd starting 25m east of Hannah St, for almost 300 meters, on Bruce Birrel Dve from Racecourse Rd to 180m north of Bruton St, on Hunter Dve between Bruce Birrel Dve and Keogh Dve and on Keogh Dve itself.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the changes had come about after a review was conducted on behalf of the Berrigan Shire Council, who in turn were responding to requests by concerned residents.

“The review recommended changes to some existing speed limits due to past crash history and increased pedestrian and cyclist movement in the area. As a result, the speed zone at seven locations will be reduced,” the spokesperson said.

Signs will be changed to advise motorists of the changed road speeds.
