The Tongala Memorial Aged Care Centre welcomed musician Claire Roberts on Thursday, October 24 for a private performance.
Musical performances are a rare event at the aged care centre, but are always happily attended by the residents.
Ms Roberts, the chosen musician for the event, is a full-time performer from Stanhope and describes herself as an eclectic musician who can perform a wide range of genres.
Ms Roberts said she enjoyed being able to perform for the Memorial Aged Care residents.
“It's just so nice to be able to do something like this in a facility as beautiful as this. It is such a lovely place,” she said.
“[The residents] have been absolutely perfect. Nobody has gotten up and walked away, that’s a good thing.”
Musical performances are one of the more popular activities offered by the aged care centre.
According to the centre's lifestyle co-ordinator Karen Moore, the musical performances are always well received and can benefit residents.
“Music is great for their memory, it brings back some of their memories and of course, for relaxation,” she said.
“Lots of them who usually won’t come out of their rooms will come just to listen.”
Ms Moore added that it would be great to host more musicians but they lacked the funding to do so.
“We do activities every day but we don’t have guest artists all the time because we don’t have a very big budget,” she said.
“If we could get funding, we would be able to do more of these because the residents would love more.”
