A KYABRAM man charged over historical child sex offences is expected to stand trial in October.
The matter of Geoffrey Anderson, 69, was heard at Bendigo County Court on Tuesday, May 4.
During the directions hearing, parties discussed pre-trial issues, including a potential new prosecution witness who would provide tendency evidence.
Judge Kevin Doyle asked Mr Anderson’s lawyer Julien Lowy whether there was any prospect of a resolution, but Mr Lowy said ‘‘not at this stage’’.
Judge Doyle listed the matter for trial at Shepparton County Court in a circuit that begins on October 18.
Mr Anderson is charged with six counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16 years and nine counts of an indecent act with or in the presence of a child aged under 16 years.
He has not formally entered pleas to the charges.
Mr Anderson was committed to stand trial in November last year after Bendigo’s Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team arrested him on May 20, 2020.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between 1999 and 2004 when the male complainant was aged between 11 and 17.
Mr Anderson is on bail, with conditions including surrendering his passports, not to attend points of international departure and not to contact witnesses for the prosecution other than the informant.
