Trials at munitions facility to generate noise

Noise from trials being undertaken at Mulwala’s Australian Munitions facility will be heard over the next fortnight.

Trials at Australian Munitions Mulwala from Monday, November 25 to Saturday, December 7 will generate noise between 9.00am and 4.30pm.

“As part of our continued commitment to providing high quality product to the Australian Defence Force, Australian Munitions will be conducting a series of trials that will generate noise levels that will be heard across the community,” General Manager – Mulwala Matt Jarrad said.

Thales Australia Limited trading as Australian Munitions operates the Mulwala facility on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia (Department of Defence).

This facility has a key role in supporting the Australian Defence Force with the production and supply of critical items of explosive ordnance, propellants and other services.

Thales was selected as the preferred tenderer as part of the Federal Government’s 2024 Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Plan recently.

Thales employs over 730 skilled staff at Mulwala and Benalla to manufacture munitions systems for the ADF and international partners.

The tender announcement has reinforced the commitment from the federal government in October 2023 to invest $220 million in munitions production in Mulwala and Benalla.

The 2024 Australian GWEO Plan is critical to boosting the domestic manufacture of missiles and munitions and supporting uplift of GWEO stockpiles in Australia.
