With Johnno’s Run 2022 edging ever closer, Nathan Dri, Ashleigh Stone and Anthony Osborne are getting ready to take part in the fun run for the first time.

The men live together at one of the Community Living and Respite Services houses in Moama, part of the Opening Doors Project, and said they were excited for the fundraiser.

Anthony, Nathan and Ashleigh will be taking part in the 5km walk and have already started their training ahead of the August 7 event.

The three go for regular walks on Monday nights, doing laps at the Port of Echuca. But their preparations don’t stop there — they also go to the gym at Snap Fitness on Tuesdays, with Anthony and Ashleigh also doing Zumba classes.

Anthony said he loved going down to the river, adding he enjoyed socialising and talking with friends along the way.

An avid music lover, Anthony loves listening to Michael Jackson and New Kids On The Block, and said he was hoping to raise as much money as possible.

He is also a keen swimmer. His favourite events are freestyle and backstroke and he will be heading to nationals in Tasmania later this year.

Nathan said he was looking forward to taking part in the fundraiser with his friends and was looking forward to receiving his special Johnno’s Run shirt.

Nathan is a keen football fan and plays for the Echuca Moama Rockets. He barracks for Melbourne and his favourite player is Nathan Jones.

In fact, all three are keen footy fans — Ashleigh barracks for Hawthorn and Anthony supports Geelong. In the hotly contested household footy tipping competition, all three are trying to chase down Jodie Gehan from CLRS who holds the lead.

Ashleigh said his favourite thing about training for Johnno’s Run was getting to hang out with people and laughing with his friends.

The trio moved into the Opening Doors Project house in July last year. The project is an initiative that builds homes for people with disability, giving them greater independence and inclusion in the community.

Johnno’s Run 2022 will include 5km and 10km runs, walks and wheels, as well as a half-marathon for the first time.
