A unique exhibition, by two Benalla artists, opens on Thursday, June 27 in Wangaratta.

Pots ‘n’ Boxes features the work of Susan Buykx and David Hall.

While the name of the exhibition gives away its theme, everything on display is hand-made to the highest quality.

Ms Buykx said all the items in the exhibition were made from natural materials.

“David’s are all made from different types of wood and mine are clay,” she said.

“I’ve been potting for some years and I love the teepee firing technique.”

She said she gets inspired by the local environment.

“Whilst bushwalking, the natural colours and lines of the country of north-east Victoria, together with the changing hues of the grazing country and bushland are a constant source of inspiration,” she said.

“I’ve visited many potters in France and Spain and was inspired by the natural affinity they had for their local heritage and landscape.

“The use and love of clay, put simply, is a passion.

“And David’s boxes are just exquisite.”

Fans of the Benalla Art Gallery shop exhibitions will have had a chance to see Ms Buykx’s work.

And this is Mr Hall’s second exhibition at Art Gallery on Ovens, having displayed his work previously.

The warm colours and textures of Ms Buykx’s ceramics combine perfectly with the clean modern design, beautiful timbers and polished finishes of Mr Hall’s boxes.

The exhibition will run from June 27-July 8 at Art Gallery on Ovens, 4/103 Murphy St, Wangaratta.

It will be open Thursdays, Fridays and Mondays from 10am until 4pm and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Entry is free.
