Mayor Ruth McRae OAM has been celebrated for a remarkable 20 years of dedicated service to local government, marking a significant milestone in her career in public office.

In a moving surprise, Cr McRae’s family visited to help commemorate this momentous occasion, adding a personal touch to the celebrations.

In recognising Cr McRae’s time in office, Deputy Mayor Cr Robert Black commended her unwavering commitment to the community.

He highlighted Cr McRae’s impactful contributions across the wider region and throughout the Murrumbidgee Council area.

Cr McRae described it as a deep honour to receive such recognition.

“I couldn’t have achieved this without the tremendous support from my family, fellow councillors, staff, and the community,” she said.

“Thank you all for your encouragement throughout these years.”

Returned to another four years on the council at the September local government elections, and elected mayor unopposed earlier this month, Cr McRae emphasised her dedication to continue working collaboratively for the betterment of the Murrumbidgee Council area and the wider region.

“I look forward to continuing to work with you and for you to enhance the wellbeing of our community.”

Ms McRae was automatically re-elected to represent the Jerilderie ward, along with fellow returning councillors Faith Bryce and Troy Mauger.

Mayor Ruth McRae was joined by her family to commemorate the achievement.

For Murrumbidgee East ward, Robert Black, Christine Chirgwin and Timothy Strachan were all re-elected to council unopposed.

After an election in the Murrumbidgee ward, Robert Curphey, Hayley Heath and Judith Saxvik were elected.

Ms Health is the only councillor not to have served in the previous term.

The seat she now fills was left vacant when Gavin Gilbert chose not to renominate.

In honouring Mr Gilbert’s service at his last council meeting, Cr McRae said Mr Gilbert made an “outstanding contribution” in his 12 year tenure.

“Cr Gilbert has also made an ongoing impact on the local community through his close involvement with events like the Redneck Rally, Pig Day Out and the River Run,” she said.

“Thank you Cr Gilbert for your phenomenal contribution.”

Patrick Brown, who had previously served on Murrumbidgee Council, was the only other candidate in the Murrumbidgee ward election.
