Verney Road School’s 2022 school captains are ready to lead their peers wherever this year takes them.

On Tuesday, March 8, school captains Shayla Bryant and Jedd Ring, vice-captains Nate Tainty and Bella Gordon, and the rest of the Year 12s as student council members were officially inducted.

Principal Angela Buxton said this year’s school captains were “fantastic role models”.

“We’re incredibly proud of them,” she said.

“They have developed and formed fantastic pathways for future employment and training.

“Considering the past two years their connections across the school they have done brilliantly.”

With Australia trying to put COVID-19 in the rearview mirror, Ms Buxton said the school hoped to create a sense of normality in 2022.

“We have high expectations for the year and we’re aiming for excellence in our programs and aiming to get students out as much as possible to support their learning, and just have a great year,” she said.

Senior years unit leader Janine Thorne said the school captains would be role models for the school, expected to follow expectations of respect, responsibility and being good learners.

Their role includes involvement in the leadership of the student representative council, supporting the principal and meeting and greeting visitors to the school.

Verney Road’s class of 2022 consists of 20 Year 12 students, and the leaders were inducted in front of friends and family, followed by a morning tea at the school.
