VicRoads is investigating what it describes as a “pavement traffic hazard” on the intersection of Nixon and Wyndham streets.

On Friday, November 11, part of the intersection’s road caved in, creating a deep hole in the middle.

It is suspected to have been caused by the recent floods.

VicRoads covered the hole with large steel plates on Friday afternoon and commenced work on the hole on Monday, November 14.

Traffic was backed up along Wyndham St for most of Monday, as VicRoads slowly directed vehicles through the intersection.

Meanwhile, traffic banked back across the causeway on the Shepparton-bound side following the commencement of roadworks on Fryers and Welsford streets.

The roadworks are part of stage four of the Welsford St redevelopment and won’t be completed until March 2023.
