Victorian Community Sport Minister Ros Spence has visited Wallan to discuss the implementation of the Fair Access Policy Roadmap.
Launched in August 2022, the roadmap aims to assist councils and state sports organisations develop gender-equitable access policies for publicly owned community sports facilities.
The meeting, held at R.B. Robson Stadium on Thursday, December 12, brought together sports groups, Mitchell Shire Council staff and community members to discuss how equitable access to sports facilities could create significant positive impact.
“Victoria is proud to lead the nation in creating a level playing field for women and girls so they have the same access and opportunities as men when it comes to playing the sports they love,” Ms Spence said.
The visit highlighted the council's commitment to promoting gender equality in community sports through its recently endorsed Fair Access Policy.
“Sport has the power to unite us, to encourage respect and to improve physical and mental wellbeing,” Mitchell Shire councillor Timothy Hanson said.
“By addressing systemic barriers, we can ensure everyone, regardless of gender, can fully enjoy these benefits.”
