Melbourne’s recent pride march has highlighted the Andrews Government’s celebration and empowerment of Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ communities.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Equality Minister Harriet Shing attended the annual march to display the government’s continued solidarity with every member of Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ community.

Mr Andrews said it was “an honour” to march with Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ community.

“We want every single queer Victorian to know that they are welcome, supported and celebrated for being exactly who they are,” he said.

The government contributed $275,000 towards the march and $935,000 into new funding for dedicated LGBTIQ+ programs as part of its “ongoing commitment to building safe, strong and inclusive communities”.

The government has also called for applicants for the 2023 LGBTIQ+ leadership program, which will allow at least 25 leaders to build networks and develop expertise in a safe and supportive environment.

The program will also allow them to develop skills to address the unique experiences and needs of LGBTIQ+ communities in the region.

LGBTIQ+ organisations and groups can also access grants to strengthen their operation, develop inclusive practices and support their sustainability.

Additionally emerging LGBTIQ+ groups can access grants of up to $25,000, and long-established organisations can access up to $50,000.
