State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell has again called for the Victorian Government to fund Strathbogie Shire’s Greening Euroa Project.
The three-stage project will see recycled water from the Euroa Wastewater Management Facility upgraded to class B water quality and used to irrigate the town’s green spaces over the drier months.
Speaking during the adjournment debate in Parliament, Ms Lovell asked Water Minister Harriet Shing to provide $3.8 million worth of funding to construct a pipeline to transport the water to underground storage tanks located around Euroa.
It’s the second time Ms Lovell has called for the project to be funded. Back in October 2021, she made a similar demand, but 12 months later a decision is yet to be announced.
“The Greening Euroa Project is a transformational initiative that will virtually drought-proof Euroa during the spring and summer months,” Ms Lovell said.
“I congratulate Strathbogie Shire and the entire community on their work so far and I also recognise the wonderful support Goulburn Valley Water has provided to the project.
“It is now time for the state government to step up and provide the funding to finish the project, and I call on the minister to do so.”
Ms Lovell said the project had been driven by the local Euroa and district community with the Greening Euroa committee having worked for the past three years to make the project a reality.
Ms Lovell said it was believed the Greening Euroa Project was the first of its kind in Victoria and called on Ms Shing to commit the funding to build the pipeline and complete the project.
