Funding: Victorian Youth Minister Natalie Suleyman says 111 recipients will receive grants of up to $2000.

Youth-led events in Victoria will receive a financial boost from the Andrews Government as part of the 2023 Victorian Youth Fest.

Victorian Youth Minister Natalie Suleyman has announced that 111 recipients will receive grants of up to $2000 each to host events catering to young people aged between 12 and 25.

The month-long celebration in September aims to provide a platform for young individuals to showcase their talents, establish networks and connect with like-minded peers in the creative industry.

Among the successful recipients is the Campaspe Cohuna Local Learning and Employment Network, which will host the Kyabram Youth Expo.

The expo will feature an art exhibition, music performances and stalls offering information on local health, welfare, sports organisations and youth services.

More than 500 students from Years 8, 9, and 10 in the area are invited to attend.

Recognising the importance of supporting under-represented community groups and regional events, the Youth Fest program prioritised applications from these areas.

Another grant recipient, the Victorian Afghan Students Association, will organise ‘Afghanistan’s Got Talent’, an event aimed at supporting young artists within the Afghan community.

The event will feature an art exhibition, a short story competition and a singing contest, providing a space for emerging talents to shine.

“The significant number of applications received for 2023 Youth Fest funding is a true testament to the many hundreds of community organisations which are dedicated to the wellbeing of young Victorians,” Ms Suleyman said.

She also emphasised that the funding ensured young people throughout the state could host events that not only showcased their talents but also provided opportunities to connect within their local communities.
