Victorians are voting in their thousands and voting early

Minds made up: Many people are taking up the option of early voting or postal votes for the state election.

The Victorian Electoral Commission says more than 400,000 people have already voted in the state election over the first three days of early voting.

The VEC said another half a million voters had mailed in postal votes.

Voters have eagerly taken up the option in Shepparton District as well, with a total of 4303 early votes being cast and 5174 postal votes processed.

The busiest day for early voting in Shepparton was on Tuesday, November 15, with 1739 people voting.

Electoral commissioner Warwick Gately said the statewide figures were considerably higher than for the equivalent period in the 2018 election.

“We responded to voter feedback for an increased number of early voting centres and increased hours of operation for this election,” he said.

Early voting will operate from 9am to 5pm on Saturday.

Voting will be open from 8am to 6pm on election day on Saturday, November 26.

The two early voting centres in the Shepparton electorate are at 126-128 High St, Shepparton, and 92 McLennan St, Mooroopna.

You can also vote by post, but to do so you need to apply before 6pm on Wednesday, November 23.

For voters who need assistance to vote, such as people who are blind, have low vision or those who have a physical disability and require assistance to vote, there are options including telephone-assisted voting or accessing the Convo Australia app at a voting centre, deputy electoral commissioner Dana Fleming said.
