The inaugural Cobram Barooga Volksfest has been hailed as a success.

Locals had the opportunity to view traditional German cars from bygone eras on display in both Cobram and Barooga.

The event featured 27 Volkswagen vehicles, ranging from Beetles to Kombi vans on displayed at Golf Course Rd in Barooga on Saturday, March 16 and in Federation Park in Cobram on Sunday, March 17.

Event organiser Paul Vitullo said it was a good turnout, noting participation from across Victoria and NSW.

“We had 27 entries with people as far as Wagga and Melbourne who travelled for the two-day event,” he said

Vehicles were entered into several categories for prizes, with the overall winner being a deep purple and white restored Kombi van.

Mr Vitullo said it was an excellent weekend for both the vehicle owners and those who wished to view the historical vehicles up close.

He expressed hope for establishing the Cobram Barooga Volksfest as an annual event.

“It was a fantastic event,” he said.
