Volvo car clubs from across the country will take part in biennial national rally in Echuca-Moama this October, the first event being held in the region for 21 years.

The Volvo Club of Victoria has organised the Three Rivers Rally for club members, although a vehicle display will be open to the public on Sunday, October 27.

More than 150 people from across the nation are expected to join the rally, driving around 100 Volvos between them to attend various activities in the area.

Volvo Club of Victoria president Heino Nowatzky was pleased with the help he’s received from local businesses while organising the rally, which has been in the works since September last year.

“I want to praise the people at Echuca. The businesses and the people at Echuca have been really, really supportive,’’ he said.

“We’ve had other events in other areas, and we’ve never had this support with an event before.’’

The Victorian club has more than 400 members and is a family oriented community that hosts drives, display shows, and supports charity events.

The Three Rivers Rally Volvo display show will be held for one day at the Echuca Acquatic Reserve and will feature a people’s choice voting award.

Special interest cars will be on show, including a Volvo 244 that raced in the 1979 Round Australia Trial, along with two other race cars, one driven by Peter Brock in the Bathurst 12 Hour race.

A Volvo hearse will also be exhibited, along with other rare, vintage and iconic models from the Swedish car manufacturer.

The Three Rivers Rally will be in town from October 25 to 28.
