‘Long history’ continues: Warramunda wing officially opened

Drum’s day: Client liaison officer Maria Papalia, soon to be retired Member for Nicholls Damian Drum, Warramunda chief executive John Clark, board chair Alison Hunter and clinical care manager Lynley Campbell.

Stage one of Kyabram’s Warramunda aged care facility’s redevelopment was officially opened last Friday by Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum.

Federal Government funding to the tune of $2.5 million contributed to the $5.6 million project, which has seen the construction of a new 22-bed residential aged care wing called the Saunders Wing, with a total of 82 beds on site.

“The project has resulted in a more modern facility for some of our community’s most vulnerable and allows more people to age in their own community,” Mr Drum said.

“Warramunda has a long history in Kyabram and is one of the town’s largest employers, and this redevelopment has created a further 30 ongoing jobs.”

Adding to the 22 new fully furnished bedrooms, the redevelopment includes a large central lounge and dining area with a full kitchen and pantry, two small lounge and dining areas with kitchenettes, a landscaped courtyard and a walking circuit.

Warramunda is a not-for-profit organisation that has been providing residential aged care for the Kyabram community for more than half a century.

Warramunda president Alison Hunter thanked Mr Drum and the Federal Government on behalf of the Kyabram community for their support.

“The Saunders Wing is a beautiful homely place that will benefit and allow our elderly citizens to enjoy their later years in comfort surrounded by their families within the Kyabram community,” Ms Hunter said.
