Yarrawonga Mulwala was the destination of choice for the Watercolour Society of Victoria’s second Paint Away for 2024 in mid November.

Thirty-three people gathered over three days to paint ‘en plein air’ and explore all the visual opportunities and wealth of subjects found here.

Lake views can be both challenging and rewarding for watercolour artists. Sunday brought a wonderfully moody sky and the group were able to capture the changing beauty of our locality.

In the evenings local establishments provided good food and a great atmosphere to share the day’s endeavours with lots of arty chat.

Members came from all over Victorian and took the opportunity to discover new places and create lasting friendships.

Artists are essentially loners, working in isolation and such events provide meaningful interaction, exchange of knowledge and friendships to flourish. This kind of event provides the opportunity for an effortless interchange of knowledge.

Neville Penny has been the link as he and his family have a home here and he has shared his love of this area with all the visiting artists.

Members from Marlo, the Bellarine Peninsula, and Euroa as well as localities all across Melbourne were involved in creating lasting friendships as well as discovering new places in Victoria.
