Echuca-Moama Uniting Church held a concert on Sunday to introduce their newly purchased grand piano to the community.

The event, which took place in the afternoon on April 14, brought together a group of performers to show off the sound of the new piano.

Event organiser Anne Peace was happy with how the event went and the community’s support.

“I was pleased with how it all went, and the reaction from people in the audience was quite amazing,” she said.

“I’ve had plenty of messages from people in the audience saying how great it was.

“We did it because of the people coming and to give them enjoyment, which was wonderful; I think there were nearly 100 people there to listen.”

Ms Peace was also impressed with the calibre of talent that performed, which included pianist and accompaniers David McNicol and Liam Whitbourn, the Bella A’Capella choir, and opera singer Daniel Sinfield.

“I very much enjoyed all of the performances. I had not heard Liam or Daniel perform before, but they were superb,” she said.

“David has played for us previously, and I have heard him. I liked his performance very much.

“The choir was fantastic; they have become so good as a group recently, and their conductor is bringing them up to another level.”

Mr McNicol, who performed on the day, was delighted with all the performances and felt the love of the community which he used to call home.

He grew up in Echuca and used to worship at the Uniting Church. He was taught piano by a nun at St Joseph’s College, where he also attended.

“I really enjoyed the performance; I have never had little cheers before, so they were a wonderful audience, and I am very appreciative,” he said.

“I’ve done many of these concerts over the years, and I always find them very warm and accepting, so it was really good.

“I thought there was such great talent in the performances, particularly the choir, which is a relatively small group, but they had a beautiful blend of voices.

“It was just amazing to come back and perform in the church I grew up attending; I like coming home again because it feels like we never left; it’s just wonderful.”

Ms Peace wanted to thank everyone involved who made the concert possible.

“We could not have done it without the support of a great team, including publicity, preparation of the church, flowers, printing, front of house, catering and hospitality.

“Everyone involved has been so caring and generous.”
