Wetter than usual January for Shepparton

Shepparton had a wetter than usual January this year.

A total of 45.6mm of rain was recorded for the month in the Bureau of Meteorology gauge at the Shepparton airport.

It is considerably higher than the historical mean rainfall of 30mm taken from figures in the past 27 years.

Rain in January this year fell on seven different days.

The highest daily rainfall came on January 18, when 26.2mm was recorded.

Four of the seven days of rain this year saw less than 1mm recorded.

January daytime temperatures this year were slightly cooler than the historical average taken from the past 27 years.

January this year saw a mean temperature of 31.4ºC.

This was 0.7℃ cooler than the mean historical temperature over the past 27 years.

The hottest January day this year saw the mercury rocket to 38℃ on January 14.

It was not as hot as the hottest January day on record in the past 61 years, when the temperature reached 46.2℃ on January 25, 2019.

January nights this year were similar to the historical average at this time of year.

The mean minimum temperature was 15.5℃ — compared to the historical average, which was only 0.1℃ higher.

The hottest night was on January 2, when the temperature dropped to only 22.7℃, while the coldest night came on January 6 when it was a chilly 9.4℃.

The warmest January night in the past 61 years was in 2012, when the overnight temperature dropped to only 29.1℃, while the coldest night in this time was in 2004, when it fell to a chilly 5.6℃.
