Book it: Popular children's author Andy Griffiths will be one of the authors whose childhood works are featured in Juvenilia.

If the school holiday period has been as unpredictable as the weather, have no fear because the News has some ideas that will entertain the whole family this weekend.

FRIDAY

Juvenilia exhibition

Produced by authors and artists when they were children, the Juvenilia exhibition is open in Shepparton until Thursday, January 23. Children can be inspired to start creating as authors and artists, and grow into the idols whose work they enjoy reading and viewing today.

Turtle Talk

A unique school holiday activity for the whole family, Turtle Talk will provide an up-close encounter to discover the world of turtles. Experts from Turtles Australia will share their knowledge on the species and bring along a few broadshell, Eastern long-neck and Murray turtles to show from 10am to 12.30pm. Storytime in the Park

Goulburn Valley Libraries are once again hosting a Storytime in the Park event for all ages to enjoy. At 10.30am, participants can join in with the craft activities, sing songs and, of course, listen to stories. No need to book, and nothing but a good attitude required.

Movie night at Mooroopna Pool

Sing 2 is a hit musical comedy children’s film and now people can enjoy it while splashing around Mooroopna Pool’s movie night. Mooroopna Pool itself is open from 1pm for a pre-movie swim, then at 6pm the real entertainment begins on the big screen. Remember to pack swimwear, towel, drink bottle and bring along a picnic, with a picnic rug or chair for the night.

Cost: $4.20 per child, $5.90 per adult (16 years and over). $16 group swim (five people, two adults maximum).

SATURDAY

SAM Presents: Reading Room with Melbourne Art Library

Join Melbourne Art Library’s Nell Fraser and Fi Wilson in a communal reading group at the SAM Library. The event kicks off at 2pm to answer all the mysteries concerning the role of an art museum and artists in Australia. No need to be an expert, historian or smarty pants, all are welcome to come along.

SUNDAY

Boulevard, golf estates and surrounding community picnic

It’s Sunday fun-day at Canterbury Park for an afternoon of food, family and friends. The flood recovery event runs from 2pm to 4pm. With giant games as the kids’ entertainment, it’s sure to be a school holiday highlight!
