Lockington Hotel was the place to be on Friday, with the pub hosting a family night of live music and a whip demonstration with Nathan “Whippy” Griggs.
Families and friends enjoyed the live entertainment as the event attracted 500 people.
Echuca band Intrepid played a series of covers, including the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic Sweet Home Alabama, as late afternoon turned into evening.
Luke Dighton was there with family and friends when he was pulled out of the audience to take part in a stunt. Mr Griggs stood behind him with both whips whizzing by Mr Dighton’s head.
“I started whip cracking when I was 14 years old and I have been doing it for the past 10 years,” Mr Griggs said.
“The people in Echuca have been enjoying the live performances, as I have visited here for the past three years.”
Mr Griggs feels fortunate to do something he loves.
“I suppose I am fortunate to travel around Australia and do something I enjoy,” he said.
“I’ve been doing this professionally for the past 10 years and I still love what I do.”
Lockington resident Sherryn Hann enjoyed the night out with her children Madison, Indi and Harrison and friend Ruby, daughter of the pub’s head chef, Simon Poynting.
“We were here last year and thought if Nathan ‘Whippy’ Griggs comes back, we will go,” Mrs Hann said.
Pub manager Linda Neville was ecstatic with the turnout.
“It’s fantastic to see so many people come out and enjoy a great night out,” Ms Neville said.
“Lockington is a fantastic place. The people are the town’s lifeblood.”
