Time is running out for Mathoura Gun Club president, Jack Carroll – or at least his beard.
Jack has laid his beard on the line in a bid to boost donations for the Mathoura Bra Fence group.
The group, which supports locals with cancer, is the beneficiary of the club’s annual Pink Shoot which will be held tomorrow.
As well as a full program of shooting there will be a barbecue and refreshments – and hopefully a lot of cash in the collection tins.
I just hope someone takes before and after photographs of Jack and his 15 year-old beard so his kids will really know it is him.
Full marks to the club for this annual fundraiser.

There is no doubt about the Bendigo Bank and its connection with Mathoura.
As well as providing generous donations to local organisations, the bank is now offering its support to our learner drivers.
Locals who are under the age of 21 and hold an account with Community Bank Tongala (which has a branch in Mathoura) are eligible for two free driving lessons valued at up to $70 per lesson.
It’s the bank’s way of helping prospective drivers to get on the road safely.
Those interested can give the bank a call on 5859 1401.

Help wanted!
Organisers of Mathoura’s famous Speed Shear event are seeking help – not with the shearing, but some of the other activities on the day.
People are required to help keep the kids occupied with some of the other attractions.
If you can spare some time and would like to offer your help, please contact Anne Robertson on 0429 843579.
She will be pleased to hear from you.

Today will be one of excitement for youngsters starting Kindergarten next year.
They will take a stroll down the street to have their first experience at ‘big school’.
Mathoura Public’s Kindergarten orientation program gets underway this morning.
With Mrs Park and this year’s Kindergarten class there to welcome them, it’s sure to be a great experience.
The program will run for six weeks.

Luck has certainly been on the side of local youngsters interested in playing tennis.
A recent coaching session at the school came just as Mathoura Tennis Club introduced junior social tennis.
This provides the children with a great opportunity to put what they have learned into action.
The club will welcome youngsters to the courts for 60 minutes of tennis fun on Wednesday nights at 6pm.
The annual membership fee is $10 and they must be accompanied by an adult.
That will give mum or dad a chance to have a chat with the other parents while they wait.
