The Mathoura Speed Shear Event attracted a good crowd, keen to see the skills of competitors from near and far in action.

The fleeces it had taken the animals months to produce disappeared in a matter of seconds. Just as well we’ve had a bit of warm weather since.

This year’s winner will join the display of previous champions in the main street.

Winners were as follows:

Open - Llyr Jones.

Senior - West Poka.

Women’s - Jodie Graham.

Intermediate - Jacob Patterson.

The prize for the fastest time went to open winner Llyr Jones, with a time of 21.9 seconds.

The Kiwis retained bragging rights in the Trans Tasman competition.

The Kiwi team for 2024 was Terry Graham, Hemi Delion and Pae Abraham.

The Bra Fence was again a recipient of funding support from this event, and thanks go to the organisers.

Mathoura’s access to a community nurse has been assured, thanks to Mathoura Bowling Club.

When the local hospital auxiliary’s planned fundraising activity could not go ahead, the club stepped in with a major raffle.

It was a great success, but the final tally had not been confirmed at the time of going to print yesterday.

The club was happy to support a service it hopes no-one would need to use, but is important to have available.

People interested in playing football or netball, or helping those who are, are reminded that the Mathoura Football Netball Club’s annual general meeting will be held on Tuesday evening.

The meeting will be held in the club’s rooms at 7pm and everyone is invited.

It is a great club, which caters for everyone from youngsters through to seniors, but it does not run itself.

It needs the helping hands to ensure it can continue its important role.

So if you would like to put your hand up to join the team, contact the club on its website Mathourafnc@gmail.com.

Apologies for inability to attend on Tuesday can also be sent to the same email.

Sympathy is extended to the Watson Family on Pam Watson’s recent passing.

I understand a private funeral was chosen for her farewell.
