Star turn: Sweet Felicia and The Honeytones are one of the headline acts for the first Winter Blues At The Races event at Echuca Racing Club on Friday, July 29.

Trackside tunes are set to lure a big crowd to Echuca Racing Club for the Winter Blues At The Races on Friday, July 29.

The event forms a key part of the Echuca-Moama Winter Blues Festival program and is being staged for the first time.

Echuca Racing Club manager Garry Armstrong said it was a day a couple of years in the making.

“I had a chat to Pete (Williams) about it probably 18 months ago and persuaded RV (Racing Victoria) it was a good idea,” Mr Armstrong said.

“There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes and we’re looking forward to a great day.

“You can come out, enjoy the music, watch the races and have a great day out.”

Three top-shelf acts will perform as the races are run and won.

Julian James opens the proceedings with a set from noon through to 1.30pm.

He is followed by Sweet Felicia and The Honeytones from 2.30pm through to 3.45pm.

Pete Cornelius rounds out the musical entertainment with a show from 4.15pm through to 5.30pm.

Showstopper: Pete Cornelius is another of the acts performing at the Echuca Racing Club.

Mr Armstrong said the musicians would perform in the pavilion, which offers a magnificent view of the track from an elevated position.

“We’ve sold out our dining packages already which is fantastic, but the pavilion will be open for the public to sit in comfort, enjoy the music and watch the racing action,” he said.

A free shuttle bus will be running on the day, picking up patrons from the Star Hotel, American Hotel, Caledonian Hotel, Border Inn and Moama Bowling Club from 11am.

It will also drop patrons off when the eight-race program is completed in the early evening.

“The crew from McConville’s Coaches in Tongala have been doing it for years and they do a terrific job bringing people from town and running them back to town after the races,” Mr Armstrong said.

Gates open from 11am, with the racing action to start from about 12.30pm.
