A woman in her 70s was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital about midday on Sunday, following a car collision on Cobb Hwy, Moama.

The incident occurred at 11.55am on September 11 after a 1935 hot rod utility and a white Toyota Corolla collided with one another, just after Nicholas Dr.

Inspector Paul Huggett of the Murray River Police District said the hot rod was heading south while the Corolla was heading north along the Cobb Hwy.

“The hot rod ended up in the north-bound lane, causing a head-on collision,” Insp Huggett said.

“Both vehicles contained a husband and wife and both females needed to be extracted from both vehicles by mechanical means.”

The woman who has been airlifted is in a stable condition with minor injuries, Ambulance Victoria said.

Two other people involved in the collision were transported by road to Echuca Regional Health with minor injuries and are also in a stable condition.

Two fire trucks and a number of New South Wales Police, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria vehicles were on the scene.

The north-bound lane on Cobb Hwy was closed for a short amount of time and traffic was diverted.

Insp Huggett said the investigation was ongoing and both drivers had been conveyed for mandatory blood and alcohol testing.
