Two hundred locals attended the 14th Glenaroua CFA Brigade’s Woolley Cup.
The annual sheep races provide an opportunity for the Glenaroua region to come together and recognise volunteers for their achievements and significant contribution to the community.
More than $8000 was raised for the local CFA team, which boasts 1065 years of combined service.
State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland emceed the event.
She said the event reflected the meaning of community, with a turnout even larger than the town population.
“In a town of around 150 people, to have more than 200 locals come to the races is testament to the strength and connection of the Glenaroua region,” Ms Cleeland said.
Ms Cleeland thanked volunteers such as Pam Beerens, who is secretary/treasurer of the Glenaroua CFA and secretary of the Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society.
“With plenty of helping hands, including the amazing Leigh Arandt auctioneering, her team has put together another sensational instalment of sheep racing,” Ms Cleeland said.
“CFA brigades are home to some of the most selfless and community-focused people you will ever see. It’s great to see an event like this bring people together, entertain and raise essential funds.”
