It was a unique and special occasion on August 22 when cricket’s 2003 World Cup was temporarily housed at ClubMulwala, made available by Cricket Australia through North East Region 6 Cricket Manager Peter Brear.

Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club President Glenn Brear was photographed with the “heavy as lead” prestigious cup won by the Australians in South Africa with captain Ricky Ponting (140 not-out) and Damien Martyn (unbeaten on 88) belting up 2/359 after openers Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden set the tone.

In reply, India, who had sent the Australians in to bat, was dismissed for 234.

“It was great having the World Cup here,” Glenn said. “There was a lot of interest at ClubMulwala with this magnificent trophy.”
