Greater Shepparton residents are invited to join the celebrations for World Rivers Day later this month.
The event is free and promises a day of school holiday fun.
RiverConnect is hosting the event at Victoria Park Lake.
World Rivers Day, celebrated annually on the last Sunday of September, is a global celebration of waterways.
It aims to highlight the value of rivers while raising public awareness and promoting responsible and harmless use of the waterways.
The Goulburn River, known as Kaiela in Yorta Yorta language, is listed as a heritage site and holds significant cultural, social, economic, recreational and educational importance.
The World Rivers Day celebration will run from 9am to noon at Victoria Park Lake on Sunday, September 24 and will feature stalls, activities, food and entertainment.
The headlining event is the inaugural River Run Race.
Participants can form teams, come up with creative themes and costumes, and craft DIY canoes to wear and race on land.
Canoes should be constructed from recyclable and second-hand materials if possible.
Registrations are open for corporate, community and youth team races, promoting sustainability by repurposing materials before recycling.

Registrations are not necessary for the World Rivers Day event, and entry is free.
