Year 12 students at Shepparton ACE Secondary College are finishing their schooling with a bright future ahead of them thanks to Greater Shepparton Foundation and the Margaret Attwood Trust.
The Margaret Attwood Trust has gifted $4000 to each of the five Year 12 students to go towards further education costs at university or GOTAFE next year.
Immegin Langley has her heart set on completing a Bachelor of Arts but is taking some time next year to complete a pathways course at university before she chooses what she wants to major in specifically.
“I’m keen to start the next lot of learning, I enjoy learning but I’m ready to move on from high school and do something different,” Immegin said.
“It’s very exciting to get the scholarship. I always wanted to continue studying, I just didn't know how or what, but having the scholarship, it's given me opportunities to explore what I can do and how I can continue.”
Thomas Miller is also looking towards completing a Bachelor of Arts in Creative and Professional Writing.
As part of that, he’s decided to put some of his scholarship money, like the rest of his peers, towards a top quality computer to help give him a head start at university next year.
“I can tell you getting a scholarship was a welcome surprise,” Thomas said.
“I could not be happier. It got me this wonderful piece of technology which is going to be great for next year.
This is the first time the Margaret Attwood Trust has provided this scholarship for Year 12 Shepparton ACE Secondary College students and it will continue on for the Year 12 graduates next year, Greater Shepparton Foundation chief executive officer Amanda McCulloch said.
“We were thrilled to have the support of the Margaret Attwood Trust to help the kids achieve their dreams of further study,” Ms McCulloch said.
“It’s pretty exciting to provide the kids with the opportunity to do what they want to do and relieve some of the financial pressure of study.”
Ms McCulloch encourages any school leavers who are looking for further education scholarships to apply for the Greater Shepparton Foundation Liftoff scholarship program.
